Why the Questions You Ask Matter?
The questions we ask really do shape the reading. In many ways, they act like a lens through which we see ourselves, other people, and the situations we find ourselves in. Very often, the questions we ask reflect where we are emotionally and the perspective we are bringing to the situation.
That is why it is worth paying attention to how we approach our questions, not just what we ask. A question can open up a conversation, or it can narrow it before we have even begun. Sometimes we ask from fear. Sometimes from frustration. Sometimes our questions are shaped by assumptions we do not even realise we are making. All of these influence the direction the reading takes.
The Tarot works with the perspective you bring to it. Sometimes, part of my role is helping you formulate the question that really needs asking. A good question is not really about getting an answer. It is about helping you see your situation differently.
Why Yes or No Is Not Always Helpful?
It is only natural to want straightforward answers. Questions like Will I get the job?, Does he love me?, or Should I leave? are often the first things people ask because they seem clear and direct.
The difficulty is that Tarot does not always work well with yes or no questions. It is much better at exploring a situation than reducing it to a single answer. Rather than simply telling you yes or no, it helps you understand what is influencing the situation, what possibilities exist, and what you may not yet have considered.
There is something else worth considering too. A yes or no question can leave you waiting for fate to decide what happens next, when in reality you often have more influence than you realise. Tarot is at its most helpful when it helps you understand your choices, see your options more clearly, and decide how you want to move forward.
How To Ask More Helpful Questions?
The way we ask a question can make a real difference to the reading. Small changes in how we frame a question often lead to deeper insight and a much clearer understanding of the situation. Rather than looking for certainty, it is about exploring possibilities, understanding what is influencing the situation, and recognising where your own choices can make a difference.
For example, if you are tempted to ask "Will I get the job?" you could ask "What can I do to improve my chances, and what might be getting in the way?" Instead of waiting for an uncertain outcome, the focus shifts to what you can influence.
If your question is "Does he love me?" you could ask "What do I need to understand about this relationship, and how can I communicate more clearly?" This explores the relationship itself rather than trying to answer a question that only another person truly knows.
When you are facing a big decision, instead of asking "Should I leave my job?" you might ask "What are the likely outcomes if I stay, and what are the likely outcomes if I leave?" This allows you to explore both paths without asking the Tarot to make the decision for you.
And if you find yourself asking "When will I meet someone?" consider asking "What do I need to understand about my love life right now, and what might be holding me back?" This keeps the focus on the present and on what you can learn, rather than asking the Tarot to predict an exact timeline.
Things That Can Limit a Reading
Avoid compound questions. Asking "Will I settle my court case this year and move to Bali?" is really two questions in one. Break it down. One clear question at a time.
Watch out for assumptions too. Questions often contain conclusions we have already reached without realising it. Asking "When will he come back?" assumes that he will. A better place to start might be "What do I need to understand about this relationship?" It allows the reading to explore the situation without making assumptions.
Finally, remember that Tarot is there to offer guidance, not to make decisions for you. The cards can help you see a situation more clearly, understand your options, and recognise patterns you may not have noticed. What you do with that insight will always be your decision.
Not Sure What to Ask?
Many people come for a reading without knowing how to ask these kinds of questions. They know something is bothering them, or that something in their life needs exploring, but they are not sure where to begin. That is perfectly normal.
Often, the best place to start is simply by looking at what is happening in your life. As we explore the situation together, the questions that matter usually begin to emerge and take shape.
Sometimes, the most useful question is not the one you came with. Part of my role is helping you find the question that opens up the most helpful conversation and gives the reading the direction it needs.
